Pakistani woman injured by Indian cross-border firing dies at hospital

RAWALPINDI: A 28-year-old Pakistani woman injured by firing from Indian forces across the Line of Control died Tuesday a hospital in Rawalpindi.

Fareeda was severely injured on Friday after she received bullet wounds in the stomach when Indian Border Security Force (BSF) resorted to unprovoked firing across the border in Jandrot sector near the LoC.

She was being treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at Rawalpindi where she succumbed to her wounds today, the ISPR said in a press statement.

Fareeda is the latest casualty of a recent flare-up at the LoC and Working Boundary that divides the disputed regions between the two neighbouring countries, with India continuously violating the ceasefire agreement.

Last week, three Pakistani civilians were martyred and 11 injured due to a similar incident of unprovoked firing and shelling by Indian forces across the Sialkot Working Boundary.

The Foreign Office lodged a protest with India last week over the ceasefire violations and asked New Delhi to stop such activities and observe the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding for the cause of peace along the LoC and Working Boundary.
