ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan met with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Philip Barton on Tuesday.

According to sources, during the meeting the Pakistani government’s decision to prepare a reference for legal proceedings against MQM chief Altaf Hussain was discussed. Barton and Nisar also spoke about the investigation of Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case.

Earlier, speaking at the Rawalpindi Police Lines Chaudhry Nisar said the government was preparing a reference for initiating legal proceedings against MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

Nisar said that there was no personal enmity with either the MQM or its chief and that Altaf Hussain was facing a legal and not a political case.

The interior minister said that matters exacerbate when the MQM chief ridicules national institutions. He said the government cannot allow anyone to harm the sanctity of national institutions.

Nisar said that the government had not created the money laundering case against Altaf Hussain.

He said that the British police had commended Pakistan's cooperation in the investigation of Dr Imran Farooq's murder, and that it had written a letter to Pakistani authorities.

Nisar also said that the murder case purportedly had some links to Pakistan, but the matter will not move forward until UK provides tangible evidence.
