Bilawal directs Sindh govt to take preventive measures for likely floods

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday directed the Sindh government to take necessary measures to curtail as much devastation as possible in the wake of likely floods in the upper areas of the province.

In a statement issued here, he also directed all concerned departments to stay alert in their respective areas, adding that repair works for barrages and embankments on River Indus should be completed on priority basis.

The PPP chairman also directed for arrangements relating to likely displaced persons from rural areas.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said that the intensity of flash floods could be increased by a fresh spell of monsoon rains, which according to it have begin in different parts of the province.

In a statement issued here, the Met Department said monsoon rains and thunderstorms can create hazardous situation in the River Indus.

According to weather experts, isolated rain/ thundershower is also expected in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas Division.
