KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held protest demonstrations in different cities of Sindh against registration of FIRs against its self-exiled chief Altaf Hussain, dubbing the move as illegal and in sheer violation of the Constitution.

A huge protest was staged outside the Karachi Press Club where senior party leaders, parliamentarians, and members of party's coordinating committee were also present.

Another demonstration was held in Sukkur where a large number of people expressed solidarity with Mr Hussain, denouncing registration of cases against him over his alleged hate speech.

As many as 31 FIRs have been lodged across the country against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief for delivering 'hate speech' and 'inciting violence'.

Addressing the protesters in Karachi, senior leader Mr Sattar said media trial of the party was the main reason behind the anger.

He said everybody was eyeing the upcoming local bodies election and efforts were underway to divide Altaf Hussain and the Muhajir community.

He demanded of the authorities to hold an inquiry to verify MQM’s claim of extra judicial killing of its workers.

MQM workers also staged a sit-in at Fawara Chowk near Governor's House to protest snap-checking conducted by the Rangers.

The Rangers are said to have arrested many MQM workers at the end of the protest demonstration.
