185 orphans fall prey to food poisoning in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Around 185 orphans sheltered at Pakistan Sweet Homes (PSH) in Islamabad, were rushed to hospitals when they fell ill after consuming substandard food.

At least 60 food poisoned affectees were also taken to Holy Family Hospital while others were rushed to Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Hospital.

ISLAMABAD: Around 185 orphans sheltered at Pakistan Sweet Homes (PSH) in Islamabad, were rushed to hospitals when they fell ill after consuming substandard food.

At least 60 food poisoned affectees were also taken to Holy Family Hospital while others were rushed to Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Hospital.

All the child specialist doctors and paramedical staff have been called in owing to high number of affected children.

Meanwhile, according to PSH, commonly known as Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, the children had consumed bread and tea for breakfast.

They said the condition of the children was better and they will be discharged from the hospitals shortly.

Meanwhile, police officials have obtained samples of the breakfast given to the orphans at PSH this morning for examination purposes.

According to the media coordinator, Umar Hussain at PSH, all items for daily breakfast are outsourced and nothing is prepared at PSH’s own kitchen.

The items for breakfast that are provided by a company on a daily basis are bread, milk and cake rusk.
