Lt-Gen Nasser Janjua urges Balochistan rebels to give up arms

QUETTA: Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua on Friday urged Balochistan rebels to give up arms and return from mountains to join national mainstream.

Speaking to opening ceremony of a cricket tournament, he announced Rs500,000 to Rs1500,000 for giving up arm struggle against the state, saying there is no benefit in fighting against the country.

Lt Gen Janjua said those involved in disrupting peace in Balochistan will not be tolerated at any cost, adding that nobody will be allowed to snatch prosperity of the province. Masses in Balochistan have preferred peace as the young generation has realised that they had been provoked, he said.

Urging the masses to support the cause, he appealed to the general public to inform about any suspicious person on help-line 1135.

Apex Committee reviews NAP

Earlier in the day, a meeting of Balochistan Apex Committee was held with Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch in chair and decided to accelerate measures for implementation of the National Action Plan.

The meeting was attended by Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua, Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Chief Secretary Balochistan Saifullah Chathha, Home Secretary Balochistan, General Commanding Officers, Inspector General Frontier Corps, IG Police, Commissioner Quetta divisions and other officials.

The Apex Committee decided amnesty for the youth who would surrender and leave their armed activities against the state. The government will take steps for rehabilitation of these youth it was decided. The meeting expressed its satisfaction that sense of security was created amongst masses after the stern action taken against criminals.

The committee reviewed the issues including registration of religious seminaries, Afghan refugees and funding of terrorists. It was decided that Education Department would do registration of seminaries while the federal government would be informed about the stance of the Balochistan government over the presence of Afghan refugees in the province.

FIA, Customs, NAB and Police will investigate funding of terrorists and the elements involved in the menace would be brought to justice, it was decided. The meeting also agreed to take action against banned organisations.

The meeting also reviewed the FC actions against elements involved in Mastung tragedy.

DIG Police Quetta informed the meeting about recent terrorist activities reported in Quetta. Commissioner Quetta told the meeting about security arrangement taken for security of passenger coaches–APP/Geo News
