DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Forty policemen including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were dismissed from service due to their negligence in duty, due to which over 200 inmates had been freed by the terrorists from the central jail here two years ago.

According to the District Police Officer (DPO) D I Khan, an ASI, head-constable and constables are among the terminated policemen. They all are local residents and deployed at the central prison, he added.

The dismissed policemen, however, have the right to file appeals in the department and the services tribunal. The local DPO was assigned as the head of an inquiry against the policemen.

The D I Khan Central Jail was attacked by a group of militants in the adjoining night of July 29 and 30 in 2013 and got over 200 inmates, among them 15 hardened terrorists, freed. The attackers had killed four prisoners and two policemen.

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had claimed responsibility for the attack.
