Murad Ali Shah says federal govt responsible for power crisis

KARACHI: Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday held the federal government and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responsible for the prevailing power crisis, saying that Sindh province has been ignored by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.

Addressing a press conference at the Sindh Assembly premises today, Shah said that he had written several letters to the prime minister but the federal government had shown no interest in matters relating to the province.

He said that despite payment of Rs24 billion of electricity dues to the federal government, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif had not fulfilled his promises.

Murad Ali Shah remarked that the federal government was free to discontinue electricity supply to Sindh government offices, but it should ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the common people.

Shah’s press conference comes on the heels of Federal Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif’s recent warning to the Sindh government to release billions of rupees in electricity dues to the federal government or face disconnection at government offices in the province.
