SCBA officials accuse own president of misusing office

ISLAMABAD: Office-bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), belonging to (Late) Asma Jehangir group, on Wednesday levelled allegations of violating rules against Aman Ullah Kanrani, incumbent president of the Association.

Addressing a joint press conference at Supreme Court, Secretary General of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Chaudhry Azmat Ullah; Salahuddin Gandapur, Vice President Sindh; Syed Saleem Akhtar, Vice President Balochsiatn and others belonging to Asma Jehangir (Late) Group alleged that Aman Ullah Kanrani being a president has severely violated the rules bent upon hatching conspiracies along with his cronies against the Lawyers Housing Society as well as its hostel. They alleged that since his election as president of SCBA, the secretary general said that Aman Ullah Kanrani is bent upon taking wrong decisions while bypassing the decisions of the Executive Committee of the Association.

They said that late Asma Jehangir had constructed a hostel in Islamabad for lawyers; however, Aman Ullah Kanrani wants to give out on a contract. Similarly, they said that as per the decision and meeting of executive committee of the Association held earlier, tenders were called from different hotels and ads were given in the papers in this regard. They said that interview of the bidders were conducted, and it was unanimously decided by the executive committee that the successful bidder would be given tender of the hostel, but the president of SCBA without taking the members into confidence contracted an agreement which was in total violation of rules of SCBA.

Similarly, they said that the SCBA president, while making his one of an illegal step as legal, called a meeting with his own signature which is in violation of Rule 18 of the Association adding that before the commencing of the said meeting, the secretary general termed that meeting illegal which was accordingly endorsed by the members of the Association and consequently postponed that meeting.

The office bearers said that earlier in 2018, in one of the meetings, it was unanimously decided that any meeting of the general body will not be called in violation of rules and regulations of the Association as well as without taking the secretary general into confidence.

They further said that in order to cause loss to the much awaited housing society of lawyers community, the president had announced allegedly an illegal decision saying those lawyers who want to get back their deposited money for the acquisition of plots should contact the Housing Foundation and president SCBA will not be responsible for dealing with the matter.

They said that they are determined to make their efforts for the acquisition of plots for the lawyers’ community adding that soon they will file an appeal against Aman Ullah Kanrani.
