LAHORE: Dozens of blind persons gathered outside the Punjab Assembly building in protest against the Punjab government on Wednesday demanding an increase in the job quota for the visually impaired.

Blind persons have been demonstrating for the past three days, but the protest gained intensity today as the protesters beat the gates of the Punjab Assembly with sticks and stones.

Video footage showed one protester repeatedly ramming a metallic pedestal fans into the large iron gates of the assembly building. Another blind man could be seen unsuccessfully attempting to climb the gate to enter the building.

The protesters had gathered at Faisal Chowk early this morning, blocking traffic on The Mall. But protesters later marched towards the Punjab Assembly building in an attempt to convey their demands to the government.

A Geo News correspondent put the estimated number of demonstrators between 50 and 60. So far, the provincial government has not sent any representative to pacify the protesters.
