RAWALPINDI: General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) who is on an official visit to Srilanka, visited Army Headquarters and called on Lieutenant General A.W.J.C De Silva, commander of the Srilankan Army.
Upon arrival at Army HQ, General Raheel Sharif was presented guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Srilankan army, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan Army.
Later, General Raheel Sharif was given detailed briefing about operational and training aspects of srilankan army.
During the meeting with Srilankan army chief, matters of professional interest, ways and means for further enhancing bilateral defence ties with particular reference to mutual benefit from each other's experience in fighting terrorism, were discussed.
Srilankan Army chief praised Pakistan army for its professionalism, and successes in Operation Zarb-e-Azb for bringing peace and stability in the region.
General A.W.J.C De Silva thanked General Raheel sharif for timely and much needed support during Koslandawatta – Meeriyabedda devastating mudslide in Budhala, Srilanka last year.
COAS also called on Vice Admiral SAMJ Perera, Commander Srilanka Navy at Naval Headquarters on matters of mutual interest.
