KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has dismissed SP Sadar and SP Special Security Unit (SSU) from their posts on failing to protect the Sindh High Court (SHC) when masked policemen assaulted Zulfiqar Mirza’s guards and journalists outside its premises on Saturday.

The decision was taken during a meeting here on Friday chaired by the chief minister, who has already suspended 15 SSU over the incident.

On Tuesday, the SHC rejected an apology tendered by IGP Sindh Ghullam Haider Jamali and other police officials on the siege of the high court.

A heavy contingent of police backed by Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and masked personnel of the Special Security Unity on Saturday besieged the SHC building and rounded up over two dozen supporters of former Home Minister and disgruntled PPP leader Zulfiqar Mirza while journalists covering the incident were also subjected to manhandling.
