FIA continues probe of Axact records, questions employees

KARACHI/RAWALPINDI: Officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) visited the headquarters of Axact for a fourth day on Friday to continue their investigation and questioning of the IT company's employees.

KARACHI/RAWALPINDI: Officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) visited the headquarters of Axact for a fourth day on Friday to continue their investigation and questioning of the IT company's employees.

FIA investigators were currently at the Karachi offices of Axact, which is accused of reaping millions of dollars by selling fake academic degrees online.

According to reports, FIA officials were investigating the company's records and questioning employees in Karachi.



FIA confiscates fake degrees, certificates from Axact HQ: sources

In a raid on the company’s office in Karachi on Thursday, FIA investigators confiscated 10 computers besides important documents, fake degrees, certificates and an electronic stamp-making machine.

Sources told Geo News on Thursday that the fake certificates of universities and colleges were issued to students. The confiscated computers were transferred to FIA's Cyber Crime wing for forensic tests.

Six senior employees from Axact’s Rawalpindi office visited the FIA office on Thursday for questioning.

Those appearing before the FIA included Axact Regional Head Colonel (retd) Jamil Ahmed, Senior Manager Safety and Security Colonel (retd) Muhammad Younis, Assistant Manager HR Abid Khan, Assistant Manager IT Muhammad Amjad, Sales Leads Hasnainur Rehman and Sajjad Haider.

The six employees were issued notices on Wednesday to appear before the FIA.

The inquiry of the fake degree scandal is being led by Deputy Director Corporate Branch Jalil Khan while FIA Cyber Crime Circle teams from across the country have been called to Karachi.



FIA gives Axact CEO 48 hrs to appear for statement

The FIA has given CEO Axact Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh 48 hours to appear before the agency to record a statement on the fake degree scandal.



Axact Dubai office closed for two years

The Khaleej Times reported on Thursday that the office of Axact in Dubai has been closed for two years.

The newspaper visited three addresses of Axact listed in the online business directory and found only one bearing the name of the company.

A security guard working at the business centre where the office is located confirmed to Khaleej Times that “nobody had visited this office in the last two years and it hasn’t been opened even once.”

The guard did confirm that the company was owned by a ‘Pakistani businessman’.
