ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday submitted its response in the Supreme Court of Pakistan over a plea, seeking a hold on implementation of death punishments awarded by military courts.

Attorney General of Pakistan Salman Aslam Butt told the apex court on behalf of the federation that those who got death punishments and the organizations they are affiliated with have waged a war against Pakistan through slaughter of army and paramilitary soldiers.

Hence, fulfilling the requisition of justice, the court should withdraw its stay order against the punishments, rejecting the miscellaneous plea moved by the Supreme Court Bar Association.

The federation said that it was yet to be decided whether top court could admit the plea for hearing. The AG said the SC had to decide under the 21st Constitutional Amendment its jurisdiction in the case.

The Attorney General questioned how a stay order could be passed against the punishments without deciding the jurisdiction of the court.
