Police officer killed, American lady doctor injured in Karachi violence

KARACHI: The Station House Officer of a local police station was killed and a American lady doctor was critically injured in armed attacks in two different areas of the city on Thursday.

According to police, the first incident took place on Korangi road in Defence where SHO Preedy police station Ejaz Khawaja was driving his vehicle.

KARACHI: The Station House Officer of a local police station was killed and a American lady doctor was critically injured in armed attacks in two different areas of the city on Thursday.

According to police, the first incident took place on Korangi road in Defence where SHO Preedy police station Ejaz Khawaja was driving his vehicle.

Police said two unknown gunmen riding motorcycles fired on his vehicle. Khawaja died on the spot and his vehicle crashed into the sidewalk, where a local resident informed the police about the incident.




Shortly after the target killing, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Sindh formed a four-member committee to investigate the murder.

The committee will be headed by Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) South Dr Jameel and will include the Senior Superintendent (SSP) South, SSP City, and SSP Investigation, said a spokesman for the Sindh Police.

In a separate incident later in the day, unknown gunmen attacked Dr Debra Lobo, Vice Principle of the Jinnah Medical and Dental College, on Shaheed-e-Millat Road, leaving her critically injured.

However, according to latest reports, she has been treated successfully and is out of danger.

According to initial reports she was shot in her face while she was driving her car.

The lady, whose nationality is said to be American, had been working for the local college for the last 15 years.
