KARACHI: The chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Sunday said the issue of Yemen must not be viewed on sectarian basis.

Talking to media persons here after his meeting with Pir Pagara at the latter’s residence, the Maulana said the decision of whether Pakistan should dispatch its troops to Yemen is not such a simple matter.

He said if pressure is building up on sending the Pakistani troops to Yemen, then the wise thing would be to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) to discuss the matter. “There has to be a comprehensive national debate on Yemen issue,” he added.

The JUI-F Chief said the issue of Yemen must be viewed in the context of Pakistan’s relations with the neighbouring states.

He, however, warned those elements to remain within their limits who were discussing the possibility of attack on Harmain Sharifain (Makkah Mukarama).

The Maulana said being an important state of the Muslim world, Pakistan should play its due role towards resolving the Yemen issue.
