KARACHI: Pakistan’s star all-rounder Shahid Afridi expressed his disappointment with the role played by the Pakistani media during the World Cup.

“The Pakistani media says we support the team, but everyone supports the team when we play well,” Afridi said on Geo News programme ‘Score’.

“The role of the media was negative and for ratings those individuals of your country who are respected worldwide were insulted.”

Afridi added that for Pakistan to progress the media would need to be kept within a “certain limit”.

The media should certainly criticise issues related to cricket but personal attacks should not take place. “Everyone is quick to criticise, but no one has any solutions.”

Pakistan’s T20 skipper was all praise for Pakistan’s pace attack but added that the batting and fielding let the team down.

On his own performance, Afridi said he did not live up to his or peoples expectations.

Shahid Afridi said he had enjoyed playing cricket under the captaincy of Misbah and described him as a very nice man who he respected.
