ADELAIDE: Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to bat first against Australia in their crucial quarter final match of the World Cup 2015 at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

Australia made one change from their last pool match against Scotland, bringing in fast bowler Josh Hazlewood in place of fellow paceman Pat Cummins on a hard, bouncy pitch.

"The pitch today is different from previous matches," said captain Misbah-ul-Haq, adding that the pitch had bounce and would favour seamers.

Pakistan retained the same team that beat Ireland, once again ignoring leg-spinner Yasir Shah and veteran batsman Younis Khan.

The decision to make no changes to the team came despite former Pakistan captain Imran Khan advising Pakistan to play Younis and Shah.

Imran, who led a young Pakistan side to a memorable World Cup victory in 1992, said it was crucial for Pakistan to play "like cornered tigers, (with their) back to the wall".

"There is only one way for Pakistan to play (against Australia) and that is to attack," he said.

Australia hold the upper hand in ODIs between the two nations, winning 57 times to Pakistan´s 31. Australia swept a three-match series in the United Arab Emirates last October.

The winner of Fridays match will take on defending champions India in the second semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground next Thursday.
