LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that he did not order any authority to carry out an operation against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) activists in Model Town.

The CM Punjab recorded his statement today, before a joint interrogation team (JIT) probing the Model Town incident of June 17, 2014, during which at least 14 people lost their lives in clashes between PAT workers and the Punjab Police.

PAT had nominated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, CM Punjab, police officials, members of the provincial administration as well as the provincial government and the federal government in the Model Town FIR.

The Punjab government had suspended Rana Sanaullah as its law minister following the tragedy.

Shahbaz appeared personally before the JIT to record his statement under oath today.

The CM said that he came to know about the tense situation developing on that day at Model Town at 9.00 am in the morning.

He went on to say that any personnel involved were removed from office on the same day.
