Legendary batsman Javed Miandad has advised the struggling Pakistani side to field the right combination in matches against minnows to avoid further humiliation in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

In his column for ICC’s website, he said that, following Ireland’s surprise win against West Indies, the pressure would be on the top four teams in Pool B and one more upset from either Zimbabwe or Ireland could leave the pool wide open.

“Ireland’s remarkable victory has once again proved that sides below the Test playing nations are quickly learning the 50-over format and are no more minnows,” he wrote.

Criticizing the selectors, he said this is the weakest Pakistani side playing in a World Cup because players like Shoaib Malik, Azhar Ali and Zulfiqar Babar are ignored.

“It's not a bilateral five-match ODI series in which the team can experiment in one or two matches,” wrote Miandad.

“The side needs to pick specialists for specific spots. I sincerely hope that the team management has learnt its lesson and will not falter on Saturday against a wounded West Indies.”

The former Pakistan great criticized the team management for playing Younis Khan as an opener while leaving out specialist Nasir Jamshed. He also assailed the Pakistani think-tank for not playing specialist wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed.

Miandad said the Christchurch wicket would suit fast bowlers and Pakistan needs to select the right eleven to have any chance against the wounded West Indies.
