Shakib al Hasan creates history for Bangladesh

CANBERRA: Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladesh cricketer to make 4,000 runs in One-day International cricket on Wednesday during the World Cup clash against Afghanistan.

CANBERRA: Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladesh cricketer to make 4,000 runs in One-day International cricket on Wednesday during the World Cup clash against Afghanistan.

Shakib reached the landmark in his 142nd ODI when he clipped a ball from Aftab Alam for a boundary in the 37th over at Canberra´s Manuka Oval.

He made 63 and together with Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 71, lifted Bangladesh to 267 after they were struggling at 119 for four. The two experienced batsmen shared a fifth-wicket partnership of 114 runs to take the Tigers to a competitive total.

Shakib and Rahim played key role in defeating debutants Afghanistan by 105 runs.

Shakib, registering his 27th ODI fifty, hit six fours and a six in his 51-ball stay while Rahim, notching up his 19th ODI half-century, also hit six fours and a six during his 56-ball blitz. (AFP)
