ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan held a news conference on Monday where his focus was the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and the party’s chief Altaf Hussain.

Imran Khan called on the Pakistani government to hand over two witnesses in the murder case of Dr Imran Farooq to British authorities, adding that he would mount pressure of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to do so.

During the news conference the PTI chief made several references to Altaf Hussain using harsh words in his statements against the MQM chief. Khan also announced that he would file a defamation case over inappropriate langue used by Altaf Hussain to describe female members of the PTI.

He said the nation should stand united against the terrorism of Altaf Hussain, adding that MQM chief has terrorised the business community of Karachi.

“I wonder how the educated people of Karachi tolerate a man like Altaf. Not everyone in MQM is a killer.”

Khan called on MQM workers several times during the news conference to dissociate themselves from Altaf Hussain.

“It’s time for the MQM and for the people to get rid of Altaf and its armed wing to bring peace back to Karachi for which the police will also have to be impartial.”

The PTI chief said his party would sit in any forum or attend any event in the future where the MQM was present. Imran added that he would write a letter to the British government against the MQM over the Baldia Town tragedy and murder of Dr Zahra Shahid.

To a question, Imran Khan said all kinds of terrorism cases must go to military courts including that of Baldia Town factory inferno where 258 people were killed.

Khan claimed that the son of MQM’s slain leader, Azeem Tariq, told him that the killer of his father was the same people who had lifted his coffin.
