ISLAMABAD: Federal State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Tuesday said that K-Electric owes Rs32 billion to Islamabad and the previously agreed deal will not be followed anymore.

A five-year agreement of supplying 650 MW electricity to K-Electric from the national grid ended Sunday midnight.

Speaking in GeoNews show “Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada key Sath”, he said the government pays citizens of Karachi Rs70 billion as power subsidy.

Ali said that the power distribution company has been asked to increase their power generation to 2400 MW.

“We have to take into account the needs of the entire country and not just one city,” he said.

The state minister urged the company to increase its own power generation capacity and assured that any shortfall would be covered by the federal government.
