Govt decides to form military courts in Gilgit Baltistan, AJK

ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday decided to extend the scope of military courts to Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. The decision was taken during a meeting to review implementation of the anti-terrorism National Action Plan (NAP).

ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday decided to extend the scope of military courts to Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. The decision was taken during a meeting to review implementation of the anti-terrorism National Action Plan (NAP).

During the meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said: “we will not rest until the last terrorist is eliminated.”

It was decided that permission from the Gilgit Baltistan and AJK councils would be sought on the 21st Amendment and Army Act Amendment for the formation of military courts.

The meeting held at the PM House was attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Interior Secretary, DG NACTA, Attorney General and legal experts.

The performance of committees formed for the implementation of NAP was evaluated during the meeting.

Officials from the Interior Ministry informed that 164 hate speech cases had been registered and 157 people arrested in Islamabad and Punjab. 40 printing presses had been sealed while 1994 cases of misusing loudspeakers were registered and 1088 people arrested.
