MQM, ANP seek military operation in Karachi

ISLAMABAD: Senators from the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP) took to the floor of the Senate on Monday demanding a military operation in Karachi.

ANP Senator, Shahi Syed said people of Pakhtun ethnicity were being killed in the city, while MQM Senator Nasreen Jalil said people who spoke Urdu and other languages were also being killed

ISLAMABAD: Senators from the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP) took to the floor of the Senate on Monday demanding a military operation in Karachi.

ANP Senator, Shahi Syed said people of Pakhtun ethnicity were being killed in the city, while MQM Senator Nasreen Jalil said people who spoke Urdu and other languages were also being killed in the Karachi.

Jalil spoke of the growing influence of the Taliban in the city and the extra-judicial killing of over 21 MQM workers by police and Rangers.

The senator said MQM chief Altaf Hussain could not return to Pakistan because of life threats.
