LHC stays execution of death row convict

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday stayed the execution of a prisoner whose appeal is pending in the Supreme Court.

Muhammad Faiz had been awarded the death penalty for the murder of intelligence agency officials and was to be executed on January 14.

Faiz had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court after his death sentence had been confirmed

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday stayed the execution of a prisoner whose appeal is pending in the Supreme Court.

Muhammad Faiz had been awarded the death penalty for the murder of intelligence agency officials and was to be executed on January 14.

Faiz had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court after his death sentence had been confirmed by the LHC.

-LHC Acquits Death Row Convicts-

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Monday acquitted four death convicts.

Faisal Hameed, Tahir Hussain, Habibullah and Hafiz Naseer had been awarded the death penalty in the Imambargah attack case by Anti-Terrorism Court. The accused has challenged the decision in the LHC Rawalpindi bench.

The four had been accused of involvement in the 2002 suicide attack at the Shahnajaf Imamabargah in Rawalpindi.

Following the attack at the Army Public School in Peshawar, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had approved lifting of the moratorium on the death penalty.
