Meeting reviews progress of Rawal Road repair work

A meeting to review the progress of Rawal Road repair work was held Wednesday at site office here. The meeting was chaired by Muhammad Akram Soban, Director Engineering RDA. Deputy Director Syed Husnain, Resident Consultant, and other relevant officers and contractor of the project attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the RDA director engineering directed the concerned to complete Rawal Road repair work at earliest by executing ongoing work on fast track basis. The project includes carpeting work, streetlights including 265 LED lights, 65 new poles, traffic signals, check post, Kuri Road expansion, curb stones and clearing of drains. He also informed that the Rawal Road will be inaugurated by the end of February 2017.

Rawal Road was built in year 2000 and has completed its due period, as the carpeting duration/life is 10 year. The director engineering said that after repair work, Rawal Road will be beneficial for all people who journey on this road including patients who goes to Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology hospital for treatment. Rawal Road is very busy road and is also used as alternate road by people coming from Islamabad while going to Airport.

Later on when this correspondent approached the director engineering Akram Soban to know whether any enquiry is being conducted on allocation of huge amount of Rs330 million for just revamping work of Rawal Road, he said that allocation of funds is appropriate. According to him Rs330 million are utilised for carrying revamping work of 8 kilometre road. Reports carried in a section of the press over too much allocation of funds is not correct. While defending his own position he refused to comment further on the matter.
