PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will announce the names of provincial president, general secretary and information secretary for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during his expected visit to the provincial capital in the last week of October.

Sources told The News on Tuesday that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would visit Peshawar after Muharram to personally interview the future leaders of his party in the province. During his visit to Peshawar, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will meet workers from every division and people belonging to various walks of life.  The coordination committee comprising senior members have already presented its report and also suggested three names for each offices after visiting each district in the province.

“The chairman can announce the names of cabinet members even before coming to Peshawar,” the source said, adding it was confirmed that the cabinet would be completed at the end of October.

It may be recalled that PPP activists have been complaining against the coordination committee for delaying the report as well as accusing them of lobbying for themselves instead of resolving the differences in the party. The five-member committee, including Rahimdad Khan, Humayun Khan, Noor Alam Khan, Rubina Khalid and Shuja Khan, visited the province to finalise their report.

In their separate chat with The News, the activists admitted that there were several groups in the party at the district level.  They said it would be difficult for the central leaders to nominate office-bearers and it would also create problems for the coming provincial president of the party.  A senior PPP leader wishing not to be named said that there would be no problem for anyone.

Quoting the party’s constitution, he said, the chairman could nominate anyone for the top office and he would select the remaining office-bearers. He said it was the prerogative of the party’s chairman to nominate anyone. The workers, he said, would have no objection once a decision was made by the party’s chairman.

When asked about the expected visit of the party’s chairman to Peshawar, Humayun Khan said they were finalising arrangements for his visit.  He said the committee had already presented its report to the party’s chairman.

About the reported differences among the workers, he said PPP was a major political party and difference of opinion couldn’t be termed as differences. He said the politically conscious workers of PPP would overcome all problems under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He said that PPP would emerge victorious in the next general election with the support of its workers.
