KARACHI: About four Lyari gangsters were killed in an alleged gunfight with the law enforcement personnel here on late Saturday night, Geo News reported.
The police claimed that the outlaws were killed in a retaliatory fire after lawmen came under attack in the middle of a targeted action in Lyari, where at least five people including a cop were killed earlier in the day.
Sources said Rangers and police were carrying out a joint raid in a gangster-infested area when mobsters from Baba Ladla and Faisal Pathan groups opened fire at them near Duabi Chowk forcing the securitymen to strike back with full force.
Reportedly, four attackers had fallen by the time the guns of the state fell silent.
Police say Mohammad Hakeem aka Chota Django and Umer aka Janoo are among the killed gangsters.
“All the four mobsters were proclaimed offenders and wanted for multiple counts of violent crime”, they added.
The dead bodies of the criminals were shifted to Civil Hospital for autopsy.
Earlier on Saturday, at least five people including a policeman and gangster were killed Lyari, while six others including two young sisters were injured.
According to police, Aziz Jan Baloch and Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla groups clashed again today in order to gain control of Lyari areas including Kalr, Ahmed Shah Bukhari road, Eido Lane, Phol Pattti Lane, Rangiwara, Panjgori and other adjoining areas.
Firing and grenade attacks continued throughout the day.
Sources from Civil Hospital told that a body and six injured were brought to the hospital. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained while the injured included Amna Yusuf, 10, her sister Amina Yusuf, 6, Hamza, Fahim, Sabir, and 70-year-old Qasim.
Moreover, one policemen was killed while another was injured in firing that took place in Kharadar area.
Sources confirmed that Kareem Baloch said to be a member of Baba Ladla gang was also killed in Saturday's violence.
