Fuel fraud

This letter refers to the news report ‘Rs1.9m fine imposed on fuelling stations. I was shocked to learn that there are about 20 such fuelling stations which have been penalized by the authorities for “short-selling of petrol and diesel.” This unpardonable crime was being committed right under the nose of Ogra by unscrupulous petrol pump owners.

The only way out for the customers is to stop getting petrol from these pumps but when 90 percent of city pumps are indulging in this malpractice, what can customers do to ensure that they are not defrauded? How can we know that after having been fined, the owners of fuelling stations have rectified their practices and from hereafter they will be providing the correct quantity of petrol to their customers? Ogra should find a solution to this issue in order to save the consumers from being exploited by these criminal owners.
