WANA: Four suspected militants were killed and five others sustained injuries in a drone attack on a house in the Baghar area of Birmal tehsil in South Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border on Friday.

Security officials and local villagers said the drone fired six missiles and hit a car and a house allegedly being used as a hideout by militants in the mountainous Baghar village. They said four people were killed on the spot and five others sustained injuries. Local villagers said bodies of the four slain men were disfigured beyond recognition. The injured were later shifted to a private health facility.

Villagers said the area was considered to be a stronghold of local and foreign militants. There was no way to immediately confirm the identity of the slain people but some people said they were tribal militants and belonged to Maulvi Nazir group.

Our correspondent adds from Hangu: Two soldiers and nine militants were killed in separate clashes in Orakzai and Kurram agencies on Friday, official and tribal sources said. The sources said the militants stormed the security checkpost in Dabori area in Orakzai Agency, leaving a soldier, Havaldar Shafqat, dead and another injured. The security forces returned the fire and killed three militants.

In another development, militants attacked the security forces in Thera area in Kurram Agency in which a soldier, whose identity could not be ascertained, was killed. The security forces, the sources said, killed six militants in the retaliatory fire.
