Pakistanis working at Bagram airbase removed from service


DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A number of Pakistanis working at the US-run Bagram airbase in Afghanistan have been removed from service by the US Army. A citizen of Peshawar, Asif Ali, who worked as manager at the US Army Engineers Corps, in a Facebook message to American Consulate General in Peshawar said that the FBI terminated the services of Pakistanis without giving any reasons, possibly due to tense relationship between the two countries. He asked the consulate to help him because he and others had been removed from service.


SALU teachers protest against exam controller

SUKKUR: The Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Society on Sunday protested against the violation of the merit and seniority list in the Annual Examinations, 2011, commencing from 10th January. The society’s office-bearers said the controller examinations has violated the merit and seniority list in the way that junior teachers are assigned duties at exam centers of their choices whereas, the senior teachers have been assigned duties far away from home. These violations have been committed in Sukkur, Larkana, Ranipur, Gambat and many other areas.


Widow to get PPP’s Senate ticket

NOWSHERA: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to award a ticket to Begum Pukhraj Babar, widow of the late party leader Maj Gen Naseerullah Babar, to contest the next Senate election, sources said on Sunday. The sources said that President Asif Ali Zardari directed the party’s provincial president Senator Sardar Ali Khan to award the Senate ticket to the widow of Naseeruallah Babar after a meeting in Islamabad.


One killed in tribal feud

SUKKUR: Old enmity claimed the life of a man in Gharhi Khairo here on Sunday. Police said that at the Punj Gulla Chowk of the Gharhi Khairo, a clash took place between Panhwar and Bilhar tribes. In the exchange of fire between the two groups, Afzal Karimi was killed. Police shifted the body to a hospital for post mortem.
