TAKHTBHAI: Police arrested more than six persons when an anti-loadshedding protest became violent in Shergarh near here on Thursday, police sources said.

The sources said the protesters blocked the busy Malakand Highway for traffic for more than four hours. Police asked them to disperse peacefully and clear the road. It had to baton-charge and fire shots into the air to disperse the protesters who were refusing to end the road blockade.

The angry protesters damaged two vehicles and pelted stones at the police. The police arrested six of the protesters.

The protesters said the power outages for up to 20 hours in the holy month belied the government claim that loadshedding duration would be reduced in Ramazan.
