TWENTY five couples, including two of the Christian community, tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony held under the aegis of Minhaj Welfare Foundation on the premises of Minhaj University, Township, here on Sunday.

 

A large number of elite of the town, including MNA Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, MPA Malik Saiful Malook, MPA Ejaz Ahmad Khan, MPA Uzma Bukhari, film star Nisho, noted artiste Bahar Begum, film and TV artiste Muhammad Afzal alias Jan Rambo, his wife film star Sahiba and noted columnist Ajmal Khan Niazi, attended the ceremony.

 

They addressed the ceremony and appreciated the Minhaj Welfare Foundation for holding the mass marriage event annually for deserving girls. The most genuinely deserving girls, mostly orphans from across the country, were selected through scrutiny for wedding, said Mian Iftikhar Ahmad, deputy director of Minhaj Welfare Foundation. Two couples of the Christian community also tied the knot according to their own customs and religion, he added.

 

It is the regular feature of Minhaj Welfare Foundation started in 1995 and in yesterday s ceremony 25 couples tied the knot and thus so far 610 marriages had been solemnised by the Foundation. He said that the Foundation presented a gift package to every bride which consisted of a pedestal fan, washing machine, sewing machine, double bed, blankets, DVD player, dinner set, tea set, water set, cutlery sets, furniture, iron box for domestic items, suitcase, water cooler, stitched and unstitched cloth and other essential items of daily use.
