KARACHI: Pakistan National Shipping Corporation has acquired a supramax bulk carrier and named it MV Hyderabad for its subsidiary company Hyderabad Shipping (Private) Limited, a statement said.

PNSC took the physical possession of MV Hyderabad at the Port of Guangzhou, China on Thursday, the statement said.

The Supramax Bulk Carrier, built in 2004 by Oshima Shipyard, Nagasaki Japan, has deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 52,951.

The vessel was purchased from a company named Jewel Maritime Inc. Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, managed by Emaarat Maritime Ltd., UAE.

A Supramax vessel is typically 150-200 meters in length, 52,000-58,000 DWT, with five cargo holds and four cranes.

The acquisition of MV Hyderabad is in line with PNSC’s commitment to modernise, develop and strengthen the national flag carrier of Pakistan.
