ISLAMABAD: Punjabi stage actor Murtaza Hassan alias Mastana died on Monday after protracted illness at the Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur.

 

He was suffering from hepatitis-C and was hospitalised for the last three weeks and passed away at the age of 70. He was one of the best Punjabi stage actors. He started his career in 1973 and performed in more than 2,000 TV and stage dramas. He was a very good actor and comedian. “Shab Daig” was his one of the best plays throughout his career.

 

He worked in Punjabi stage shows in different cities of the country. He was a very popular stage comedian. He had a large number of fans not only in Pakistan but also around the world. Later, he retired from the stage acting.

 

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Markazi Janazgah in Bahawalpur and famous stage and TV artistes besides important political, social figures and officials of Bahawalpur attended the funeral. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard Noor Shah Bukhari in Bahawalpur.
