The development process which was initiated in 2005 by the district government, headed by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jameel, won appreciation at a ceremony organised at the Governor’s House in Karachi. The ceremony was held for the launch of ‘books and documentaries on development of Hyderabad’ chaired by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan. Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Ghauri, Leader of opposition in the provincial assembly Jam Madad Ali, Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Karachi City Nazim Mustafa Kamal and President of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) Azizuddin Arain spoke on the occasion and lauded the performance of the district government.
The speakers appreciated the development works which had been ignored in the past several decades. Business community, media, elected representatives of Hyderabad and government functionaries were also present.
The HCCI president expatiated on the condition of the city before the Nazim system and lamented that the city was deprived of basic necessities of life and facilities such as clean drinking water, sewerage system and infrastructure.
Arain said the district government started the development works in Hyderabad after a comprehensive planning.
He said more than 1,200 development schemes in road, education, health, water, sewerage and other sectors have been completed and billions of rupees have been invested in order to restore the old glory of Hyderabad.
The HCCI president said Expo Centre is now being established at Hyderabad for providing exhibition venue for the businessmen and industrialists who would promote small and indigenous industries of the city.
Meanwhile, Youth Affairs Sindh Director Khursheed Ali Shaikh said the provincial youth affairs department in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) would provide training to them for getting loans through microfinance and would also guide them in choose business. He highlighted the rising level of unemployment in Hyderabad.
The director was speaking at an awareness seminar on youth entrepreneurship organised at the Isra University Hyderabad.
