MIRANSHAH: Six persons were killed and three others sustained injuries when a US drone hit a house in Dre Nishtar village in the remote and mountainous Shawal valley in North Waziristan Agency on Sunday.

Official and tribal sources said the drone fired two missiles and struck a house located in the forest-covered Shawal valley. The sources said that five US spy planes were seen hovering over the area during the attack. It was the second attack by the CIA-operated unmanned aircraft in the same area during the past few days.

The sources said that six persons were killed on the spot while three others sustained injuries. The bodies were damaged beyond recognition, the sources said, adding that the injured persons were in a serious condition. There was no way to ascertain the identity of the victims.

The US authorities and unnamed Pakistani security officials routinely claim after every drone strike that militants have been killed. The Taliban in North Waziristan led by Hafiz Gul Bahadur had banned the anti-polio immunisation campaign in their area recently as a mark of protest on the US drone strikes in which they claim civilians are being killed.
