MIRAMSHAH: Four persons were killed when a US drone hit a building here early Friday in Miramshah, which serves as the headquarters of North Waziristan, sources said.

They said the drone fired two missiles at 3:00am at the building located in the Miramshah bazaar and killed four unidentified persons. More than six shops were also destroyed in the attack.

The identity of the slain persons could not be ascertained as the bodies were mutilated beyond recognition. Official sources said this was the ninth attack in North Waziristan by the CIA-operated unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) since January this year. Some sources said that the slain persons appeared to be militants.

AFP adds: An AFP reporter said armed men, covering their faces with scarves, were seen collecting belongings including blood stained clothes and documents from the rubble. Militants ringed the area and barred entry to the house.

The blast destroyed five shops including a bakery, three grocery shops and a telephone kiosk. "I was sleeping in my home when a deafening sound woke me up," resident Yousuf Khan told AFP. "Fearing that my house has been attacked, I peeped out of my window and saw flames raging from the building facing my house. Two men holding Kalashnikov rifles warned me to go inside. I shut the window and went to sleep."
