A change of guard ceremony took place at the Mazar-e-Quaid on Saturday on the occasion of Defence of Pakistan Day where a contingent of cadets from the PAF Academy Riaslpur took over guard duties at the mausoleum.


The cadets assumed the guard duties in commemoration of the visit of the Founder of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to the PAF Academy 62 years ago.


Air-Vice Marshal Muhammad Safdar Khan, the Air Officer Commanding PAF Academy, inspected the guard of honour and laid a floral wreath at the Mazar.


The ceremony was witnessed by a large number of visitors, including students from various PAF schools and colleges.


On the occasion of Defence Day, a ceremonial parade was also held at the PAF Base Masroor. Base Commodore Masroor Air Commodore Sohail Ahmed addressed the Air Force officers and airmen and read out the message of the Chief Air Staff who paid tribute to the heroic struggle of all those valiant men and women who embraced martyrdom in the Indo-Pak War of 1965.


After the parade an impressive PAF static and air display was held at the base.


The display was inaugurated by Air Vice-Marshal Tahir Rafiq Butt, Air Officer Commanding Southern Air Command. In the static display the fighter aircraft, air-to-ground weapons and armaments, the radars, the aero modelling equipment and stalls of the PAF souvenirs were the main areas of interest for the visitors.


The air display included aerobatics by the F7P and Mirage fighter aircraft.


Meanwhile, flag hoisting ceremonies were held at the units, formation-level of the Pakistan Army and all ships and establishments of the Pakistan Navy to commemorate the Day of Defence of Pakistan September 6. Special programmes and Bara Khana were also the army and naval units to recall sacrifices and heroic act of the armed forces personnel to defend the country during the 1965 war.
