DERA MURAD JAMALI: Flash floods triggered by the torrential rains have caused around Rs 22 billion losses in eastern Balochistan, Agriculture Minister Asad Baloch said on Wednesday.

 

He told media persons during his visit to Naseerabad district that some 600,000 to 700,000 acres of agriculture land was swept away by flash floods followed by torrential rain in Naseerabad and Jaffarabad. At least Rs 4 billion would be required on emergency basis to compensate the farmers in the rain-ravaged region. He said that drastic measure were required to bring down the level of water in the affected areas as Rabi season has about to start.

 

He said that the tents and food delivered to them was insufficient. “They are in dire need of more tents, food and other non- food item as calamity has washed away every thing in the affected areas.”He called upon the PM to visit the flood-stricken areas of Balochistan.
