The News’ reporter Sidrah Roghay deserves commendation for her report on the issue of the Pakistan Studies curriculum being taught in our schools (Sept 3). Pakistan Studies is a compulsory subject and is taught in all public and private educational institutions across the country. A lot of facts mentioned in the books are not correct. Our Pakistan Studies books convey an impression that we got independence from the Hindus instead of the British. Many of the heroes who fought bravely against the British Raj do not get any mention in the PS books and many whose role was not so important are given undue importance.
The Hindu community as a whole is presented as usurper and oppressor. The provincial governments should constitute special curriculum committees consisting of unbiased scholars and educationists to rewrite the Pakistan Studies books. The committees should be authorised to delete all the material which promotes hatred against any community.
