The Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence of Youth Parliament Pakistan has proposed enhanced bilateral coordination between Pakistan and United States to curb terrorism in the region.
The recommendations of the committee were presented on the third day of the third Parliamentary session of Youth Parliament Pakistan.
Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence Chairperson Taimoor Shah presented the committee recommendations on the Pak-US relationship. The recommendations included maintenance of relations with US on the basis of reciprocal respect.
The ‘Youth Financial Policy 2012’ was also presented in the session. The policy stresses on increasing the tax income by levying agricultural tax, broadening tax base and ensuring tax recovery from all economic sectors and all segments of society.
The financial policy was presented by the Youth Minister for Finance Planning Affairs and Economics Ahmed Numair Farooq. “The accountability of military budget, promotion of cottage industry and increase in public sector spending particularly on power projects can save the economy of the country, which is on the verge of collapse,” said the youth minister. A reform in the trade policy was also demanded by the Youth Parliament.
The members of the opposition party Haseeb Ahsan and Jamal Naseer Jamaee were of the opinion that there is a dire need to deal with the culprits responsible for rampant corruption in PIA and Pakistan Railways with an iron fist. The members proposed the need of sincere and efficient management to run these institutions; which are of immense national importance.
Najeeb Abid Baloch presented a parliamentary bill on the welfare of ‘Balochistan’. The bill proposed for devolution of national ports and shipping sector to the respective provinces.
The bill proposes that in the case of Balochistan, the control of Gawadar Port should be handed over to the provincial government in order to remove the sense of deprivation. The Committee Chairperson also laid a comprehensive report on ‘Bullet Riddled Bodies and Missing Persons in Balochistan’.
The session was adjourned till today (Saturday). Senator Ishaq Dar, Leader of the Opposition in Senate, will address the Youth Parliament Pakistan on Budgetary and Economic Reforms in Pakistan in today’s session.
