LAKKI MARWAT: Fed up with hours-long loadshedding, the enraged residents of Tajazai village in Lakki Marwat district ransacked the gridstation on Sunday.
Led by Sharifullah and Ibrahim Khalil, the villagers also blocked the Indus Highway for about half an hour in protest against the unscheduled power cuts.
The protesters burnt the tyres and chanted slogans against the officials of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco). The shopkeepers in the Tajazai Chowk put down the shutters to take part in the protest.
Eyewitnesses said the protesters forced entry into the gridstation and smashed the windowpanes and damaged equipment.
Long queues of the passenger vans were witnessed on both sides and the passengers suffered tremendous hardships due to road blockade in the scorching heat.
A contingent of the police headed by District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Riaz reached the spot. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully and opened the Indus Highway to traffic.
