In his article, Asif Jilani described in detail his visit to 10 Downing Street during the time when Edward Heath was the prime minister of Britain. He found no guards at the door and was escorted to a small study room of the PM by his press secretary. During the interview, Jilani was offered a cup of tea which was made by the PM himself as he had no cooks, butlers or waiters etc.
On the other hand, look at the PM’s House of our impoverished country, spreading over an area of 55,700 square meters with a daily expenditure of around Rs1.96 millions. We, the Muslims, keep harping on the virtues of simplicity and good governance, and give the examples of simplicity of Hazrat Umar and Umer Bin Abdul Aziz, but don’t realise that we cannot preach what we don’t practice.
