ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leaders Monday said the assassination attempt on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal is a conspiracy hatched to keep the biggest party of the country away from politics.

Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry called upon political parties, particularly the opposition parties to learn from the past mistakes and work for strengthening democratic system in the country. The opposition parties, including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), had been trying to single out the PML-N for political point scoring, he said while talking to Geo News channel, he claimed.

Tallal said the opposition parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were fearful of rising popularity of the PML-N, who had delivered and performed well during the past five years.

About the next elections, he said it would be conducted on time and the PML-N would win again to form the government. However, he added, people should be permitted to cast their votes in a real sense. To a question about reforms in Federally Administered Tribal Areas, he said the incumbent government had made efforts for bringing Fata into mainstream.

Meanwhile, PML-N leader and Minister of State for Power and Water Abid Sher Ali Monday accused Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan of casting a spell on Nawaz Sharif. Talking to the media in Lahore, he urged not to introduce religious flavour in politics. “We don’t require ‘religious certificate’ from anyone to prove ourselves Muslims. “Such coward attack can’t restrain us from contesting general polls 2018,” stated charged minister.

Meanwhile, Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafiq has said the attack on Ahsan Iqban is a senseless and barbaric act. He is the son of a religious scholar and he himself observes Sharia orders in letter and spirit. Accusing such a person of changing the oath wording about the

finality of Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is really regrettable, he added. He prayed for early recovery of Ahsan Iqbal.
