Masses to block Nato supplies: JI chief

KARACHI: Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Syed Munawwar Hassan, has warned that the people of the country will block Nato supplies if the government failed to stop US drone attacks. Addressing the JI sit-in-cum-public meeting against US drone attacks at the Tibet Centre on Sunday, the JI chief said if the government failed to implement the joint resolution of parliament against drone attacks, the people of the country would take to the streets to announce their verdict against the corrupt rulers. Munawwar said about 20,000 to 25,000 CIA and Blackwater agents were present in the country.

 

UNDP to train people to overcome unemployment

 

PESHAWAR: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Refugee-Affected and Hosting Areas (RAHA) has initiated a skill development and income generation project in different districts with the assistance of ‘Aik Hunar Aik Nagar’ (AHAN). The programme was launched to address the issue of unemployment because of prolonged stay of a large number of Afghan refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Under this project, 300 persons would be trained in different skills for which preparations were in full swing. Districts where the programme would be initiated include Haripur, Swabi, Nowshera, Akora Khattak and Peshawar outskirts, Regi Haryana and Khazana Lower.

 

Tribal elder killed in Bara

BARA: A tribal elder was killed and his brother injured when militants opened fire on them in Sheen Drang area of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency, tribal sources said on Sunday. The sources said that an elder of Zakhakhel Afridi tribe, Mota Khan and his brother Misri Khan were heading to their houses from a nearby mosque after offering evening prayers when a group of militants opened fire on them.

 

Four killed in Gujranwala gas line blast

GUJRANWALA: Four people were killed and eight others injured when a gas pipeline exploded near a cardiology hospital on Khiali Road here on Sunday. A bank building was also destroyed in the explosion and windowpanes of nearby buildings broke. The dead were identified as Zahid, Shahid Salim, Sohail and woman Wakilan Bibi.
