GHALLANAI: Two members of a defunct peace committee were killed in a roadside bomb blast in Sara Maina in Anbar tehsil in Mohmand Agency, tribal sources said on Saturday.
They said that Malik Hazrat Noor and Malik Muhammad Gul were riding a motorcycle when they were attacked with an improvised explosive device (IED).
The sources said that Malik Muhammad Gul was killed on the spot while Malik Hazrat Noor sustained critical injuries and was being taken to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Malik Hazrat Noor was a noted pro-government figure.
Soon after the blast, the security forces and the political administration arrested two suspects in a search operation.
Meanwhile, Assistant Political Agent Naveed Akbar Khan said that a jirga of Uthmankhel tribe elders had been convened to ensure the maintenance of peace.
