ABBOTTABAD: The Jinnahabad Welfare Society on Monday asked the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Abbottabad Cantonment Board to work for the uplift of the area.
In a press statement, Haji Bara Khan, the president of the Abbottabad Bachao Tehreek, said the previous Cantonment Board head Omar Farooq’s performance was not up to the mark.
He said: “The ACB was financially strong and stable when Omar Farooq took over charge but due to rapid and illegal appointments of 220 workers and other matters including enforcement squad, the Cantonment Board faced bankruptcy and it was not possible for the new CEO, Farasat Ali Shah, to keep such a huge and surplus staff.”
He appreciated the new CEO Farasat Ali Shah for sacking the daily wagers. He maintained that one of the members of the Cantonment Board, Aftab Jamal Bangash, put up resistance to the policies of the then CEO Omar Farooq.
He said that Lala Muhammad Zaman and his son were illegally appointed and Aftab Jamal Bangash acted honestly and even resigned as mark of protest. He said they challenged all the illegal policies of outgoing CEO in the court of law. He said the increase in taxes, amnesty scheme, illegally renting out the community centre to a school, construction of Cantonment Plaza on nullah (stream) and building of Ali Asghar Khan Plaza in residential area.
Haji Bara Khan, who had launched the ‘Tehreek-i-Nijaat’ against CEO, Omar Farooq, said they would assist Farasat Ali Shah in the procurement of arrears of taxes from the dwellers of Cantonment Board.”
