PESHAWAR: The lawyers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa observed a strike and boycotted courts in protest against the murder of former joint secretary Karachi Bar Association Amir Haider Shah in Sindh about four days ago.
In order to protest the lawyer’s killing in Karachi and show solidarity with the community, the lawyers in Peshawar boycotted courts on Monday.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) had given the strike call to the lawyers across the province on as the Pakistan Bar Council asked for that.
The Peshawar High Court and subordinate courts adjourned hearings as the lawyers refused to appear in cases to protest against the target killing of their colleague in the port city.
Amir Haider Shah was gunned down by three masked men riding a motorcycle below in Karachi Friday evening.
The police said the lawyer, hailing from the Khairpur district, was contesting several cases related to land grabbing while some were of political nature in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
